Platinum is asleep. Seems like it has been 20 years, just like ole Rip Van Winkle. Today, gold is $1433, yet comatose platinum is $814.3, more than $600 under gold, and $716 below palladium, currently at $1530.
This is the way it sometimes goes in the markets; a stock or an asset class acts totally like it doesn't care; doesn't belong; and is depressed. Yes, it almost seems palpable. It seems like platinum is simply emotionally sad and left out of the party.
Well, I haven't yet actually capitulated to the concept that inert commodities have feelings, so whatever the heck is going on in platinum, it is my bet that it shakes it all off, wakes up, and comes back to life. In platinum's case, it won't be after sleeping thru the American Revolution, as Rip Van Winkle did, but it will be after sleeping through a sea change in the pricing of gold and platinum's sister metal, palladium, that will work its way into platinum's consciousness! :-)
