I’ve been around long enough to know the volatility in the platinum market, especially on holidays, though unintentionally, I didn’t share this experience. I apologize for not sharing the heads up, but yes I got caught as well.
My discipline required that I sell when we got into the low $900s leaving me with 25% of my platinum futures position (now $885). I remain fundamentally long-term bullish but was simply forced to capture the $100 in profits that I had earned from my low $800 purchases, though I would have been better served with sales near the recent level of $1000! :-)
An important part of my logic is that I have a very large position (for me) in Sibanye Stillwater which is really a way, in my view, of owning platinum at a very significant discount along with palladium, rhodium and gold.
